Web technology is
maturing at a vigorous rate. This site is an effort to concisely describe
the historical evolution from Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) and Joint
Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) to new eXtensible Markup Language (XML)
and metadata formats. New Web Imaging and Interactive Media describes
and tries to follow the connections and inferences made over the last
five years to push and build the internet into a new media resource. Though
there are many competing technologies from various industries and vendors,
we choose to focus on three major technology sections:
